Description
The Llanos de la Mimbre Panorama Viewpoint is especially at sundown and sunrise a magic place with spectacular views over Northern Gran Canaria. Stay on the nearby Camping ground free of charge, online appointment is mandatory under this page: https://cabildo.grancanaria.com/servicios?articleId=96814
The camping area is located inside the Tamadaba Natural Park, one of the best preserved Natural Spaces in Gran Canaria. Camping is possible in booths and in caravans, without delimited plots
The area is covered by a mixed natural and regenerated pine forest, with areas of pine plantations and other foreign species, interspersed with heather and relicts of laurel in the areas most exposed to the humid northern trade winds. The vegetation is abundant, in addition to Canarian pine and heather we can find olivillos, brooms, codesos, yellow broom, cistus and thyme. There is a wide network of trails that run through the area, many of them marked. We can do circuits through the Pine Forest or go down to the Agaete Valley, the Lugarejos Dams, El Hornillo, Tirma, Risco Faneque, continue to Artenara or get to La Aldea.
Due to the high altitude and open exposure, temperatures in winter can be very cold, softening in summer, thermal inversion can even occur, reaching high values, exceeding 30ºC, with the consequent danger of fire. The precipitations are important in winter especially the storms coming from the southwest, being able to reach values of more than 1000 mm per year. As it is located to the windward side, it is exposed to the humid trade winds, producing abundant fog.
